The 26th anniversary of ICC-NSW, 23 May 2026

The 26th anniversary of the Indonesian Community Council (ICC) in New South Wales was marked by a vibrant and meaningful gathering at the Lakemba Senior Citizen Centre on 23 May 2026. Bringing together leaders, members, and supporters from across the Indonesian-Australian community, the celebration provided a space for reflection on ICC’s journey, recognition of contributions past and present, and lively discussion about the organization’s future direction. The event combined formal remarks, a panel discussion, and opportunities for networking, reinforcing the ICC’s role as a unifying force within the local Indonesian diaspora.

The event began at 2:30 pm, hosted by MC Ms. Julie Umboh, and featured a series of welcoming speeches. ICC President Mrs. Lini Kuhn, ICC founding member Mr. Amin Hady, and the Indonesian Consulate’s Social and Cultural Affairs representative, Mr. Andos L. Tobing, each reflected on ICC’s growth from representing 26 organizations to becoming a significant platform for Indonesian community activities in Australia. The opening prayer was led by Mr. Agus Heryawan, and speakers highlighted the importance of ICC’s role in coordination, consultation, and representation—especially within Australia’s multicultural context—while honoring past leaders and addressing the ongoing challenge of engaging younger generations and maintaining organizational stability.

A central part of the event was the panel discussion, moderated by Mrs. Ani Rajagukguk, with panelists including ICC President Ms. Lini Kuhn, ICC Legislative Chair Mrs. Lusy Surtandi, ICC advisory team member Mr. Armanda Ardanis, and Indonesian Consul General Mr. Pendekar Muda Leonard Sondakh. The panel covered topics such as the benefits of ICC membership—including insurance, networking, and promotional opportunities—, the importance of youth engagement for organizational sustainability, the value of inter-organizational collaboration, and strategies for strengthening relationships with the Indonesian Consulate and broader community. Panelists also discussed the need to adapt ICC’s constitution to evolving needs and emphasized the role of communication in uniting diverse members.

Harmony Day, 28 March 2026

On 28 March 2026, the Indonesian Community Council (ICC) proudly hosted a vibrant Harmony Day event that celebrated Australia’s rich cultural diversity. The Harmony Day event, held at the Greenacre Senior Citizen Centre, welcomed participants in their traditional national costumes for a morning of cultural celebration and connection. The event fostered mutual respect, understanding, and unity, creating a welcoming space for people of all backgrounds to connect and share their stories. It was a joyful day of cultural exchange and community spirit

The official program opened with a warm welcome from the MC and an Acknowledgement of Country, followed by greetings and messages recognizing Ramadan and Eid el-Fitr. ICC President, Ms. Lini Kuhn, Canterbury Bankstown Council, Mayor Bilal El-Hayek and representatives from Indonesian Consulate, Ms. Hanna Purba, delivered speeches emphasizing multiculturalism, unity, and the importance of community engagement.

A highlight of the event was the recognition of attendees’ creative costumes and traditional foods, culminating in the announcement of best costume winners. Guests were invited to enjoy a diverse array of dishes from various cultures, fostering a spirit of sharing and appreciation.

The entertainment featured captivating performances, starting with West Sumatera’s Tari Payung by Sanggar Minang Maimbau, followed by dances representing the Philippines, China, South America, India, Myanmar, and other communities. Each group showcased the richness of their heritage, creating a colorful tapestry of multicultural artistry

The festivities concluded with a raffle draw and a participatory session, where attendees joined in a lively Indonesian line dance. The event wrapped up with expressions of gratitude and a communal spirit, reinforcing the values of respect, unity, and togetherness that Harmony Day celebrates.

Harmony Day, 5 April 2025

ICC Harmony Day, held on 5 April 2025 at Marana Auditorium, 16 Macmahon St, Hurstville NSW 2220, was a vibrant celebration dedicated to fostering understanding, respect, and inclusivity among Australia’s diverse communities. Centered around the theme “Australia’s Amazing Culture Diversity,” the event aimed to bring together people of all backgrounds to recognize and honor the many cultures that enrich Australian society. Through shared experiences, performances, and community engagement, Harmony Day provided a meaningful platform for promoting unity, building friendships, and showcasing the strength found in multicultural collaboration.

As guests began to arrive in the evening, they were greeted with refreshments, and those wearing cultural attire were photographed for the Best Cultural Dress contest. A lively media booth and soft background music set the tone for a festive and inclusive gathering, as attendees from various backgrounds mingled and shared in the anticipation of the evening’s program.

The formal proceedings commenced with a warm welcome from the MCs, followed by the opening ceremony featuring a didgeridoo performance and an acknowledgment of country. The symbolic song “Bridge over Troubled Water” was performed, highlighting the event’s message of support, friendship, and solidarity. Speeches from ICC’s Acting President, Ms. Lini Kuhn, Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism, Mr. Mark Coure MP, representatives from Georges River Council, Ms. Natalie Mort, and the Indonesian Consul General, Mr. Vedi Buana, underscored the importance of multicultural collaboration and community empowerment.

The entertainment program was a highlight, featuring a rich array of performances from diverse cultures: Vietnamese and Bolivian dance groups, the Philippines’ Iloilo Dinagyang Ati-atihan dance, and dynamic Indonesian medley dances by the Suara Indonesia Group. Musical interludes by talented singers added to the lively atmosphere, with classic hits and international favorites.

Attendees eagerly anticipated the Best Cultural Dress contest, where participants in traditional attire were invited on stage, and winners were selected by the judges. The excitement continued with a raffle draw and expressions of gratitude for sponsors and volunteers, whose support was highlighted through special presentations. The evening concluded with a spirited live band performance, inviting everyone to dance and celebrate together before the committee and volunteers joined forces for the final clean-up, ensuring Marana Hall was left spotless. The 2025 ICC Harmony Day stood out as a joyful affirmation of Australia’s vibrant cultural diversity and the strength of community connections.

80th Indonesian Independence Day

Festival & Fun Night

To mark the 80th Indonesian Independence day that falls on the 17th of August, the ICC-NSW held a day of festival and a night of celebration on Saturday, 23rd of August 2025, at 82 Brighton Ave, Croydon Park, NSW, 2133.

The day festival was opened by the mayor of Canterbury-Bankstown, Mayor Bilal El-Hayek, and the Consul General of Indonesia, Pendekar Muda Leonard Sondakh. A total of twenty-two stalls offering delicious authentic food of Indonesia, clothing and accessories as well as information stalls created a fun festival alongside traditional dances, games and national songs.

Annual General Meeting 2025

The annual general meeting (AGM) of the Indonesian Community Council of New South Wales (ICC-NSW) for the 2024-2026 period was held on 11 October 2025 at the Indonesian Consulate in Maroubra, Sydney. The meeting brought together representatives from various Indonesian community organizations, legislative and executive members, and advisors to review the council’s progress, discuss key issues, and plan for the future. The event began with a formal welcome, the singing of Indonesia Raya, and an opening prayer, setting a tone of unity and respect for the proceedings.

The meeting included the reading and ratification of minutes from the previous year, as well as comprehensive reports from both the executive and financial officers. Executive chair Lini Kuhn presented a detailed account of the past year’s activities, which included leadership transitions, fundraising and humanitarian efforts, the successful organization of large community events like Harmony Day and the Independence Day festival and bazaar, and ongoing efforts to build both internal cohesion and external networks. She also highlighted challenges faced, such as leadership transitions and resource limitations, while expressing gratitude for the support and solidarity of all members and stakeholders.

Another significant topic was the formation of a working group to review and update the ICC-NSW constitution (AD/ART) to ensure its continued relevance and clarity. Each member organization was encouraged to nominate a committed representative to participate in regular face-to-face meetings, with the aim of presenting recommended changes at the next AGM in 2026. The meeting also included updates on digital and IT grants, financial transparency, and the importance of clear membership procedures and benefits. Open discussion allowed members to raise questions about insurance, membership status, and the use of ICC facilities, fostering transparency and inclusivity.

The AGM concluded with the formal acceptance of the executive’s annual report and a group photo. The gathering reflected the council’s ongoing commitment to collaboration, accountability, and the strengthening of the Indonesian community in New South Wales.

The Special General Meeting and the 25th anniversary of ICC-NSW, 24 May 2025

On 24 May 2025, the Indonesian Community Council of New South Wales (ICC-NSW) held a Special General Meeting at the Indonesian Consulate in Maroubra, Sydney. The event was attended by representatives from member organizations and was opened with welcoming remarks by MC Mrs. Farida Bolano and legislative chair, Mrs. Lucy Surtandi. With 20 member organizations present, quorum was achieved, and the meeting proceeded according to the established agenda.

A central focus of the meeting was the formal ratification of a new Executive Chair. Following the resignation of the previously elected chair, Yusran Sipala, due to health reasons, and in accordance with the ICC-NSW constitution, Ms. Lini Kun—who had served as acting chair during Yusran’s leave—was nominated for the definitive role. The decision was based on her proven leadership, particularly in successfully organizing major events such as the farewell for the Indonesian consul and Harmony Day 2025. The meeting attendees unanimously accepted her appointment, and Lini Kun was officially confirmed as the Executive Chair for the 2024-2026 term.

The discussion section of the meeting provided an opportunity for attendees to offer congratulations and advice to the new Executive Chair. Members highlighted ongoing challenges, such as organizational regeneration, the need to engage younger generations, and the importance of reviewing and updating the ICC-NSW constitution (AD/ART) to better reflect the evolving needs of the community. Suggestions were made to expand key committees, involve more youth and family representatives, and encourage more active participation from member organizations.
